Infrared light with uniquely limited and controlled range

Oy Telva Ab

Hall 6 - H144
Finland
Telva is showcasing its new covert technology illuminator: an IR light that, together with conventional NVG’s, works like any IR light at short-range, but is undetectable from afar. The light exhibits enough light for driving vehicles, but has a limited and controllable range, beyond which it is impossible to detect.

This new Limited Range IR Light from Telva, which goes by the trademark Obsidian, presents a unique technical solution for enabling safe and undetected night-time operations. It is intended for use by SOF, logistics, engineering etc. Obsidian is available for testing and sales.

Innovation character

There are lots of IR lights on the market, but only one that has a limited range. Conventional IR lights are visible for miles in the dark when using NVG's, but Telva's Obsidian is absorbed by the air it travels through, and it cannot be detected from more than a couple of hundred meters.

Potential for evolution

The currently launched Obsidian Limited Range IR light is intended for vehicle use in land applications. A marine-capable version is, however, easy to develop based on the existing technology platform. The same goes for an aviation version. All the aforementioned versions already have feasible applications.
